Ideation on Daily Habits
Ideation on Daily Habits
Help your clients ideate on the small habits using this coaching technique so that they can progress effortlessly towards their goals & objectives
Small changes to our daily routines make BIG changes in our lives and work.
Use this template to help your clients ideate on the small habits that will help them to make progress towards their goals and objectives.
The focus is on identifying enablers and blockers in order to best help the coachee formulate their habits. The questions are formulated in such a way that prompts coachees to think deeply and put down responses that they are truly convinced about, increasing their buy-in and leveraging their inherent motivation to succeed.
This tool is for coachees who need help in translating their coaching goals and objectives into bite-sized, actionable steps. This could then be as useful for a broad variety of clients when they are working towards goals that require a steady, focused effort over the course of a few months.
As an example: The overall objective of running a marathon can be achieved with a daily habit of walking 10k steps or walking 10 minutes.
The Ideation on Daily Habits is meant to be the starting point for the core of the coaching engagement – helping the coachee formulate an action plan that they are truly convinced about. The tool doesn’t just save you a lot of time during your sessions from discussing basic ideas that the client is capable of neatly formulating on their own but also helps you delve deeper into the assumptions the client is making and help them find their own answers.
In the long term view, this tool can serve, at the start of the engagement, as a springboard into deeper discussions, and as a baseline sustainability tracker exercise at the end of the engagement.
The versatility of the tool allows it to be used at any point of the engagement when the client needs help in breaking their goals down into more achievable steps. While the recommended time is after the goal-setting exercise is complete, the Ideation on Daily Habits could even be used earlier, as a primer to goal setting.
Some of our coaches also use this tool to help clients formulate their action plans to sustain their learnings and continue working towards their objectives even after their regular sessions with their coach have ended.
