How to lead with the heart in your coaching sessions
The ability in adversity to detach temporarily from the surroundings and to check in with themselves allows your clients to be present and recalibrate.
Ask them, "How do you feel right now?", "What do you need?" and "What might others need from you?"
By asking more than telling & showing active concern for your clients' feelings, you can create a space where collaboration is likely to flourish and where resistance and defensiveness are diffused.
So, listen deeply, ask open-ended questions and always lead with curiosity.
The lure to be seen as a reliable problem-solver is strong, even for the most experienced of coaches.
Be comfortable with not knowing and encourage your clients to generate their own ideas, goals and courses of action – that way they're more likely to follow through.
